About this activity

This is one of the courses you take if you have never done any woodworking or if it was a long time ago. Learn the important basics such as the milling of rough lumber using major power machines - the Jointer, Planer and Table saw. After this course you will have gained a better understanding of the material and how it challenges the maker. The project will offer the student a platform to learn basic joinery, assembly methods and a format for project planning. After completion of this course you will have completed the admission requirements to use the Studio for Drop-in sessions. Topics covered are as follows: 1: Introduction to lumber classification, grain and moisture related movement. 2: Shop and machine safety. 3: Power tool milling. 4: Basic Joinery. 5: Basic assembly methods. Project is a lidded box. Materials supplied. Check with www.urbanwoodworker.com for more information. Come to class ready to take notes with pen, pencil ¼” graph paper and clean up after.
